The Art of the Check-In: Fostering Community & Care in the Classroom

Designed for doctoral students, post-docs, and early-career scholars, Scholar Forward is a monthly workshop series that offers practical ideas, resources, and conversation about the work of being a scholar. Each month, we’ll explore a different topic across three tracks: Teaching, Research, and Praxis.

Each one-hour session will include a focused workshop, followed by Q&A and dialogue, with ample room for conversation and exchange.

The Art of the Check-In: Fostering Community & Care in the Classroom will focus on strategies to cultivate community and care in your college classroom. Specifically, I will share tried-and-true activities that build classroom community and help students feel connected to you and your course. Activities work well in in-person and virtual environments, and I will connect these approaches to the scholarly literature on pedagogy and student engagement.
